TRAVEL TIPS

Motorbike Travel

Motorbikes are available for rent all over Vietnam, but a Vietnamese motorbike license is required to drive one. However, international drivers' licenses may become recognized in Vietnam in 2015. There are many motorbike rental places in the backpacker district, mostly catering to the backpacker brigade. Saigon Scooter Centre is a professional and reliable motorbike rental option set up by a British enthusiast, which has a fleet of well-maintained scooters and motorbikes ranging from classic Vespas to KTM touring bikes, available daily, weekly or for longer. Bikes can be rented here and dropped off at most towns and cities in Vietnam, and a luggage service can be arranged. The motorbikes at Chi’s Cafe are similarly reliable and the rental fees are very reasonable, from 120,000d a day. There are also outlets that advertise sales and repurchase for those who want to buy a motorbike in Ho Chi Minh City and sell it back to the company at their branch in Hanoi. The reliability of motorbike rental and sales places varies widely; most expect up-front payment, and some ask for a deposit or to hold your passport as security against the rented motorbike.
