TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here and Around

Bus Travel

The provincial buses from Chiang Mai to Lampang stop at Lamphun, a 40-minute drive south on Highway 106, a busy but beautiful road shaded by 100-foot-tall rubber trees. The buses leave half-hourly from Chiang Mai's city bus station and from a stop next to the TAT office on the road to Lamphun. Minibus songthaews also operate a service to Lamphun. They leave from in front of the TAT office. Fares for all services to Lamphun are about B120. Lamphun has no bus station; buses stop at various points around town, including at the TAT office and outside Wat Hariphunchai.

Train Travel

One slow daily Bangkok–Chiang Mai train stops at Lamphun, where a samlor (pedicab) can take you the 3 km (2 miles) into town for about B30, but the bus is more practical.

Tuk-Tuk and Songthaew Travel

Lamphun is a compact city, easy to tour on foot, although Wat Chamthewi is on the outskirts and best visited by tuk-tuk or songthaew.
